Naori Island, being located in a strategic spot in between Japan and all 3 major regional powers in Asia, needed some security. The JSDF has established and deployed all branches to the island to secure the island itself and the areas around it. However, locals have for a long time protested the militarization of the islands, calling it an escalation and unnecessary show of force for a proclaimed pacifist nation.

The organization goes as follows:

Japan Self-Defense Forces

JSDF Naori Hospital

The JSDF Naori Hospital is the largest and most well-equipped hospital on the island. Soldiers regularly provide emergency assistance to the locals, when Naoris' best hospital, the Fukashigi City Central Hospital is either overwhelmed or unable to conduct operations in time.

JGSDF Naori Area Security Force

Originally a company of infantry under the 23rd Infantry Regiment under the 11th Division (Now 11th Brigade), Northern Army. The Naori Area Security Force was established in 1987 during the height of the cold war when Japan needed to secure the island more effectively and without impediment on mainland units.

JGSDF Camp Naori

The base is located in Musashi, a small town located near the Okamoto. If you were to head down Hokkaido Prefectural Route 283 Okamoto Naori Airport Line, you would locate the large base, walled off from the public.

Organization of the JGSDF Naori Area Security Forces goes as follows:

Naori Area Security Force Headquarters
Naori Area Security Force Headquarters Company "Naori Guard-Hon"

JMSDF Naori Guard District

The JMSDF maintains a coastal presence at Naori Port, just east of Okamoto. The Naori Guard District handles maritime patrol, mine countermeasures, and the security of surrounding waterways. The district also supports the JGSDF with amphibious transport and logistics during joint exercises.

Organization of the JMSDF Naori Guard District goes as follows:

Naori Guard District Headquarters

; Support vessel, Utility trucks

Naori Guard District Patrol Unit "Naori Guard-Sui"

2nd Mine Countermeasures Division
Base Support Division

JASDF Naori Air Base

The JASDF operates from the northern section of Naori Airport, providing air defense and surveillance over the island and adjacent sea lanes. The base serves as a forward warning node rather than a full fighter wing, hosting a rotating detachment of interceptors from mainland Japan.

Organization of the JASDF Naori Air Base goes as follows:

Naori Air Base Headquarters
Air Traffic Control Squadron
Base Support Squadron

Naori Air Warning Squadron "Naori Guard-Ku"
1st Fighter Intercept Squadron (Detachment)
2nd Surface-to-Air Missile Squadron
Radar Site No. 5

The island's strategic position keeps the garrison busy, but the daily friction between armed patrols and local residents remains visible. The 4th Infantry Platoon (RDF) often serves as the island's quick-reaction element for both military alerts and civilian disaster response, blurring the lines between occupation and assistance in the eyes of the locals.
