    Naori Police

    Naori Police, officially nonexistent, being part of the larger Hokkaido Prefectural Police, is the primary law enforcement agency within Naori and the larger Hokkaido prefecture.

    The largest police station, Fukashigi Police Station, located on the side of National Route 425 in Fukashigi City center, serves as the primary headquarters of police activity in Naori.

    History

    The first police presence was established on the island during the Meiji era to consolidate Japan's territorial sovereignty at the time from western powers like Russia.

    During the Russo-Japanese War the islands police force assisted the Imperial Japanese Navy in resisting Russian raids on the island.

    In 1945, local police personnel assisted the Imperial Japanese Army in conducting the Naori Island Incident.

    During the American occupation of Japan, Naori Police was disbanded and replaced by US MPs to ward off the Soviet Army. Subsequently after signing of the San Francisco Treaty, Japanese Prefectural Police presence was reestablished on the island.

    In 1978, in response to North Korean kidnappings of Japanese villagers, Naori began receiving more funds to construct infrastructure to facilitate mobile patrol units and facilitate JGSDF presence on the island.

    In 1988, with the foundations of natural resources on the island, Yakuza gangs, smugglers, and cults began moving to set up bases on the island, which the Hokkaido Prefectural Police responded by deploying more assets to the island.

    In 2003, a huge Yakuza gang war occurred on the island which required intervention from the Special Assault Team and multiple Anti-firearms Squads along with heavy crackdown to quell the fighting. In response Naori Police received special equipment and had Mobile Investigation Units, Special Investigation Team, and an Anti-firearms Squad established.

    In 2015, in response to heavy weapons trafficking and North Korean threats, along with the Paris attacks, Naori Police the Anti-firearms Squad received "assault rifles" to
